Title : “Ohmu Raida”
This artwork is a fusion of two anime which are both very influential to me; Kamen Rider (Tukusatsu) and Miyazaki's Nausicaa. For me, the best part of anime is its ability to invoke a myriad of emotions from start to finish.
I wanted to put letters on the artwork which resemble Japanese kanji writing but merged into an alien form, therefore, is no meaning in the words. This throws me back to my childhood fascination with the Japanese language that I tried to read watching anime, but could never make sense of it.
Artist Biography :
Riandy was born in Aceh, Indonesia and migrated to Bandung to study architecture and art. Bandung introduced Riandy to the indie and underground music scene, which he often did illustrations for album covers and band merchandise. He usually uses the traditional media like oil on canvas, screen print art and some digital media.
Most of his themes are surreal works that optimize the canvas into a multidimensional field with distinctive colours. He often features ‘Sathar’ - a protagonist he created with antennae on his forehead and a bong in his hand.
