Antu Banyu is a mythological water spirit or supernatural being in South Sumateran folklore, it dwells in the large river Musi that divides the city of Palembang, South Sumatera. From the narrative of local elders, Antu banyu is believed to have hard long hair like pieces of bamboo stems and claw like nails. The Antu Banyu targets swimmer in the Musi especially unattended children and unsuspecting foreigners. It is said to eat the victims brains and spinal marrow. Apparently the hard long hair of Antu banyu also can make a boat sink.
