This work is a depiction of traditional folklore from West Java, Indonesia, called “Nyai Anteh Sang Penunggu Bulan”. The protagonists of this story are Anantakusuma Prince and Nyai Anteh who float to the moon.
In this work, I want to emphasize the break-up of the subjects. With the use of ink, I play with the contrast and scale to create the element of space which makes the distance between the two subjects farther and dramatic. I emphasized the historical part of the story in many forms, such as; with the architecture style of the brick which appeared in the Pakuan kingdom period, Pakujajar tree which is believed as the origin of Pakuan kingdom name, as well as the protagonists clothes which represent the clothes in the Hindu kingdom time period.
I use cross-hatching technique to create this work, this technique was applied to create rough texture as appear on the rock cliff, as well as smooth texture as appear on the cloudy sky. I also give accentuation in the trees and roots details so that the forest peaceful atmosphere become stronger.
